How To Soften the Rough Skin on The Elbows?
In some people, dark skin on the elbows can be genetic while it can arise out of neglect as well.
Whichever category you belong to, there are ways in which you can eliminate that dark and rough skin from your elbows.
We have discussed a couple of popular home remedies below.
How to soften and lighten the rough skin on the elbows?
Home remedy 1
First, make sure you have the following ingredients in order. You will need two tablespoons of freshly squeezed lemon juice, 1 tablespoon of olive oil, about half a cup of rough sea salt and a bowl. The lemon juice has the mild acids to cleanse your skin while the salt has exfoliating properties.
The oil is used to hold the mixture together and olive oil will also smoothen the rough skin on your elbows, on its own.
Once the mixture is ready, simply apply it on our elbows and give it a gentle scrub, in circular motions. After doing this a few times, simply rinse away the mixture to reveal skin on the elbows that is much smoother and brighten than before.
It is also recommended that you apply a high quality moisturizer after you have done this.
Home remedy 2
Cut up some lemon wedges in such a way that they are thin enough to cover up your entire elbow. You can use plastic wrap to hold the wedges close to your elbow skin.
Leave this simple treatment on for about 20-30 minutes and then rinse your elbows. The exfoliating and bleaching effects of the lemon will soften your elbow skin and improve its appearance as well.
Home remedy 3
You can also use the same exact method suggested below, just by substituting the lemon wedges with a good quality moisturizing lotion. Use a reputable and powerful moisturizing lotion like the “Hope in a Jar” by Philosophy or the Zenmed oil free day lotion and then wrap your elbow skin with plastic. This will also instantly soften the rough and patchy skin on your elbows.
In both the above methods, you can use cut off socks to cover your elbows if you do not have any plastic wrap lying around. Cut off socks can be just as effective in helping the lemon juice or the moisturizer to soak into the elbow skin
Once you have softened the skin on your elbows, it is important that you care for them, if you want to avoid letting them become dark again. To do that, you can simply exfoliate your elbow skin every now and then, with an exfoliating agent and with the help of a mild loofah.
If you have the habit of leaning your elbows on rough surfaces all the time, you might want to stop that habit as elbow skin can get roughed up quite quickly, if you lean on countertops or other textured surfaces.
If you spend long hours on a computer chair with your elbows resting on a rough or hard surface, it might make sense to buy some softeners or small pillows that will protect your elbow skin.
